PRESENTATION
At a time when puppet festivals are flourishing successfully in France, it was vital that Nice, a cosmopolitan crossroads of artistic influences, should create its own. Visit Théâtre de la Massuehas long been keen to pass on its love of puppetry to local audiences.
FORMA, Festival of Rare Objects and Puppetswas born of the Théâtre de la Massue's desire to promote the arts of puppetry and object theatre in the region where it is based. There are very few events around these disciplines in our region today, and we felt it was necessary to offer the public access to the wealth of work produced by both local and international puppeteers. The aim of the festival is also to enable puppeteers from near and far to come together for a festival to discover each other's work and discuss their respective practices.
This desire also goes hand in hand with an ambition for training and research in these disciplines. A puppet university will be set up as part of the programming of the FORMA but also on an ongoing basis, throughout the year, by organising conferences, training courses, workshops and round tables. The aim of this university and its international presence is to encourage academic, professional and cultural exchanges, with the aim of continually enriching these disciplines and those who explore them.

FORMA #02 - 2026
From 28 March to 04 April 2026, Nice and Carros hosted the second edition of FORMA, the Festival of Rare Objects and Puppets.
A seven-day festival dedicated to puppetry and object theatre, featuring over a dozen national and international collectives and companies, with 7 shows, a screening, a training course, a workshop, a round table discussion, and a professional day.
These events were hosted at 7 venues in Nice and Carros, bringing together over 1,600 spectators, 1 leisure centre, 14 schools, 2 middle schools, and 2 high schools.
The FORMA festival, Nice's premier international festival of puppetry and object theatre, continued with its second edition, striving to promote and share these art forms with a wide audience, as well as bringing together professionals.
These age-old arts, drawing from both a significant tradition and strong contemporary renewal, ceaselessly innovate, creating new economic and cultural links between disciplines and territories, both nationally and internationally.
